Insider Buying 12-20-24 Fill up the Tank Volatility Right On Cue

Its been a stunning collapse of the premier oil and gas companies stock prices since Trump’s election. You would think that an industry so overwhelmingly Republican and a President so enamored with drilling for oil would be a combustible combination . It’s just the opposite. It’s hard to believe that history can repeat itself right on cue as energy stocks were the laggards of the last Trump administration. With EV investment tax credits likely to disappear, with a President whose platform is “drill baby drill” you would think there would be at least some Holiday Season joy in the oil … Read more

Insider Buying Week 5-19-23 If you want to play a game of chicken- Tyson Insiders are Buying

No one really believes the U.S. will default on the debt.  The least of which are these insiders stepping up to buy their company’s stock last week.  If we’re talking a game of chicken, I say look at what Tyson Foods insiders are doing.  Five insiders took advantage of the steep share price drop on Q1 earnings disappointment.  Albemarle insiders continue to bet on the lithium economy. If you’re inclined to bet on default, take a look at the PRA Group’s earnings disaster and the new CEO purchase.  Debt collection could be a hot new growth market. You can be … Read more

Insider Buying Week 5-12-23 Prelude to Something but What?

Insiders are coming out in force to buy regional and community banks.  Normally significant insider buys are met with a predictable market response, a positive bounce between 3%-5%. This is not happening.  There is no urgency, as the stocks, for the most part, are lower than when the “informed investor” purchased the shares.  I like to believe that no one knows more about the business than the people running it, but banks may be a glaring exception to my dogma.  First of all, banks’ balance sheets are complicated and notoriously obtuse.   2008 should serve as an indelible reminder of that. … Read more

Insider Buying Week 5-5-23 Banking Blood Bath is it time to Buy?

Insiders came out to play last week. It was not pretty, but insiders are bottom fishers, as a rule. They buy in force when prices are down when they perceive a bottom.  Regional bank insiders were all over the field scooping up prices that haven’t been seen since the Pandemic lows. Unfortunately, most of it was in regional bank stocks. Bank stocks are notoriously difficult to understand. First of all, they are highly leveraged, between 5-10% Tier 1 capital ratios which is the ratio of a bank’s core tier 1 capital—its equity capital and disclosed reserves—to its total risk-weighted assets.  Usually, that … Read more

The Fed Gives a White XMAS to Seniors Noteworthy Insider Buys 12-23-22

After years, decades even of financial repression, investors are able to earn something from their risk-free savings. It could not have come at a better time for the nation’s seniors. According to the  2022 U.S. Census Bureau, more than 56 million adults ages 65 and older live in the United States, accounting for about 16.9% of the nation’s population. It’s time for them to step down off the roller coaster ride of the equity markets.  One of the cardinal rules of financial planning is that you get more risk-averse as you age. Now you can actually earn a return of … Read more

Insider Buying Week 5-26-22 Best Week Since November 2020

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll through the significant buys of the last year. The S&P 500 scorched the short-sellers, racking up the best performing since November 2020, up an astounding 6.19% for the week. So is this the all-clear sign?  We wrote last week a Temporary Truce in the Alpha War Zone that the insider buying sell ratio in the NASDAQ stocks looked like it had reached a short-term buy signal.  I hope you were able to take advantage of that. There will probably be a little carry through from such a big move … Read more

Insider Buying Week 3-18-22 NASDAQ Makes the Biggest Weekly Gain in History

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll the significant buys of the last year. I wrote last week that “For many people, the obvious response is to buy nothing, do nothing until the bear market is over. We wish it was that easy as when some stocks have corrected as sharply as they have, down 50-70% in many cases. When they turn, the upswing will be so quick and significant, violent even that there is no way of getting back in anywhere near the bottom. Last week the S&P 500 stormed 5.8% higher and the average … Read more

Insider Buying Week 3-11-22

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys?  Scroll the significant buys of the last year. And what to do about the Russian Ukraine war. It will get worse and it will drag China into an ever-deepening conflict with the West and Democratic regimes. The declaration of mutual support that Russia and China published in a 5000-word memorandum entitled Joint Statement of the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China on the International Relations Entering a New Era and the Global Sustainable Development was reminiscent of the Axis power alignment with Germany and Japan at the onset of WWII. If we’re headed to WWW3 is that a reason … Read more
