Insider Buying Week 7-21-23 Is the Bear Market Over?

The headline in Bloomberg this weekend reads, “The Bear Market Has Nearly Been Erased, Fewer Than 20 Months After It Began.” Bear markets don’t come around often. However, when they do, they tend to cause some catastrophic damage to many investors. That’s why it is important to know how often bear markets occur and how long they will last. The average length of a bear market is 289 days or about 9.6 months.  By that measure, the bear market has already been over for some time. The thing about bear markets is that they tend to be much shorter than … Read more

Insider Buying Week 4-21-23 Lithium Stocks Crash, Director buys more Lockheed Martin, and the Curious Case of Domo

Reuter’s headline news Friday that Chile is nationalizing the vast lithium deposits sent Albermarle and the rest of the lithium economy into a tailspin. More than half of the estimated global lithium resources are located in the salt flats of Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina, much of that in Bolivia.   For the time being, lithium stocks are uninvestable. Think Casear Chavez and Chevron’s disastrous write-offs in Venezuela.  It will be interesting to see if there is any insider buying in the world’s largest public producer, Albermarle.  Perception usually trumps facts when it comes to stock market investing.  The repercussions of this … Read more

Animal Spirits and the Doomsday Clock are on a Collision Course-Insider Buying Week 1-27-23

Not one of the many podcasts and pundits I listen to predicted a rally of 16% magnitude since the October lows. The January rally to date has been raw animal spirts. Obviously, this can’t keep going with the Fed dangling 5% risk-free returns out there.   Insider buying is incredibly scarce, even considering the seasonal effects of quarterly earnings blackouts.  This is what interested me last week in the thinly populated world of insider buying. The most exciting event is the new bubble forming around AI, capped off by Microsoft’s $10 billion in investment in OpenAi’s and  their overnight ubiquitous quantum … Read more

Insider Buying Week 7-22-22

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll through the significant buys of the last year. I sound like a broken record. The market seems like it’s stabilizing, up over 2% last week.  Behind the scenes, the war in Europe is the 800-pound gorilla. Is the grain deal Turkey brokered in negotiation with Russia and Ukraine the beginning of the end? Interest rates have stopped rising despite all the tough talk from the Fed. We’ll see this week if they have the stomach for a full point increase in the  Fed’s funds rate or will they wimp … Read more

Insiders Put the Petal to the Metal as Animal Spirits Show Signs of Life

Animal spirits are picking up.  This is the most buying we’ve seen since the market sell-off last December. One thing for sure, Insiders buy stocks when they think they are cheap.  Highlights are: Several insiders bought GE stock immediately prior to and immediately after Harry Markapolis’s interview on CNBC where he alleged fraud. Axogen Chairman bought $1 million worth of stock after the company she leads plunged 30% on weaker earnings forecast Outdoor billboard leader, Clear Channel newly appointed Chairman bought $913k at $2.28 per share.  CCO is loaded with debt. Three CIT insiders took advantage of low prices to … Read more

$BK,$MRVL,$PM,$PNFP,$GS,$CVTI,$TACO,$T,$LMT,$MAA,$CLDR In this report we examine stocks that C-level officers and directors  bought and sold ending the week of September 22nd, 2017.  Insiders sell stock for a variety of reasons but they generally buy for just one, to make money.  We only look at material amounts of money, $100k or more, as anything less could be window dressing.  The bar is different on selling as the natural state of management is to be sellers.  Most companies provide significant amounts of their compensation packages as stock. Therefore we analyze selling for unusual patterns; such as insider selling 25% or more of … Read more
