Insider Buying Week 02-09-24 Is it the Super Bowl or the Ripping AI Bandwagon?

Finally, there is some work to do in analyzing insider buying. It’s not much, but it’s better than the last three weeks of nonexistent purchases.  Still, the lazy move, and perhaps the best move, is to get on the AI bandwagon with the companies that have proven they can monetize Now.   The popular wisdom is that the stock market looks forward six months or so, but the reality is quite different. Earnings season is the proof of it. Companies that miss revenues and earnings expectations are punished with swift declines in share value. Those that significantly surpass expectations experience hefty, … Read more

Insider Buying Week 12-15-23 Glad to See some Big Names and Big Dollars Returning to the Insider Buying Game

While some stocks like the Magnificent Seven have had a phenomenal comeback year, many, many companies are depressed in value. We have no shortage of compelling investment ideas, but getting people to invest when values are low is the opposite of human nature. Paying particular attention to significant insider buying is one way to force that discipline on yourself. When not painting the tape or participating in required corporate ownership requirements, insiders are historically value buyers.  This week, we highlight what we think are notable buys. Although we pay attention to selling, we don’t write about this far more nuanced … Read more

Insider Buying Week 8-18-23 before the Potential Powell Shitstorm in Jackson Hole

We look at insider buying this week before the potential shitstorm next week.  It’s hard to believe that Longs can make money on the S&P 500 before a looming Fed Chairmen’s speech on Friday, August 25, at the annual Jackson Hole conference The central bankers, policymakers, and economists at Jackson Hole attempt to steer the global economy.  Powell unveiled his Paul Volker channeling act last Summer, setting off a one thousand-point drop in the Dow.  That’s too obvious a trade and likely crowded. If Powell is interpreted as anything dovish on the rate hikes, there could be a rip-your-face-off rally.  But … Read more

Insider Buying Week 6-16-23

Stock markets don’t go up every day, or do they? Friday might have been the crack in the armor as the generals sold off a bit. It’s hard to imagine what will bring the market down in the near term other than a bout of profit-taking in the big tech stocks that have run on AI mania. Of course, there are always black swans landing in unanticipated places, but a market being overvalued has never been a reliable case for a sell-off. That’s always a dicey proposition, thinking like that, but the bull is out in the pasture- there’s no … Read more

‘t want to go down.

Despite the best efforts of banking emperors like Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan or all-knowing market strategists like Mike Wilson of Morgan Stanley, this stock market refuses to go down.  Last week’s market rally has already numbed the pain from February’s losses. The bulls are stomping their hoofed feet at the fences, dying to bust out. An insomniac lies awake at night, Puzzling over a conundrum so tight; the answer eludes them, it’s out of sight, And the puzzle keeps them up till daylight. They toss and turn, and they try to sleep, But the puzzle is just too deep; … Read more

The Fed has a Hammer but needs a Scalpel Insider Buying Week 2-24-23

It’s a commonly held view amongst market strategists that the Fed follows interest rates, not determines them. You don’t have to look very far to see plenty of evidence of that.  It’s a quiet conspiracy amongst talking heads and futures markets that economic events and statistics are immediately reflected in real-time price action in the bond markets, dot plots, and other dynamic markets. The Fed will often talk up its view, and by the time they do take some action on rates, it’s hardly a surprise. This is, of course, by design. The Powell Fed believes in transparency and no … Read more

Insider Buying Week 2-10-23

When I started developing the Insiders Fund’s strategy in 2001, I knew I would miss out on some of the all-time greatest investments since founders of disruptive companies are loaded to the gills with their own company’s stock and don’t need to buy more of it. That was all right with me if could forgo this “pot of gold” and by doing so avoid the scams, frauds, and charlatans that populate the financial world.  This week we have the rare insider buy at a potential pot of gold, Vicarious Surgical, a true med tech disruptor.   Name: John Morici Position: … Read more

Insider Buying Week 7-8-22

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll through the significant buys of the last year. The market retraced some of last months loss, the S&P 500 rallying a little over 2.6% in front of the wave of upcoming quarterly earnings reports. The Fed minutes from last month were released and the long end of the yield lost some of its recent rally. I still believe we’ve seen the bottom in long term bonds for the Summer as the specter of recession gets worse with plunging consumer confidence.  West Texas crude made an attempt at stabilizing around … Read more

‘t In Yet

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll the significant buys of the last year.  Last week was a predictable short-covering rally in the most savaged part of the market, high flying cloud stocks and a smattering of nonprofitable tech players. NASDAQ stocks shellacked the most typically and predictably bounced back  10-15%. But don’t kid yourself. This isn’t the real deal, at least not for most of the bag holders. Every market correction for the last 20 years or as long as we have data for ends and only ends with a tsunami of insider buying. Whether … Read more
