Insider Buying Week 08-29-25- Will the Market stay up after Labor Day?

The week after the long Labor Day weekend always worries me. The hedge funds and titans of Wall Street have had plenty of time to convince themselves that the market is overvalued and plenty of time to collude at their Hampton retreats. Insider Buying Week 03-08-24 FOMO or FEAR?

I’ve been struggling to explain the speculative frenzy I sense in the markets. Stocks routinely go up and down 20% on earnings or even something as trivial as an analyst upgrade or downgrade yet the underlying market seems calm, benign even. The VIX, which is the current mathematic model for measuring short-term volatility, steadily trends lower. The VIX is a measure of the volatility of the S&P 500, and by now, everyone understands that the capitalization-weighted nature of that index dominates the recent stock market performance. The popular but obsolete already term ‘Magnificent 7’ refers to a handful of mega … Read more

As Buffett Laments Kraft Heinz purchase, his Partner ,Jorge Buys $100 million -Notable Insider Buys Week Ending Sept 20,2019

Kraft Heinz insider buying dwarfs all others.  While everyone is lamenting the purchase, including Warren Buffett who in a rare error stated publicly that he overpaid for Kraft Heinz, his partner in the deal, Jorge Lemann, buys a $100 million worth of the depressed stock.  Jorge didn’t get to be the 36th richest person in the world according to Forbes, by being stupid. Of course, that is pocket change for Mr. Lemann but the $7 million by van Damme is not. One of the things you have to analyze in insider buying is the significance and meaningfulness of the buy. … Read more

Insiders sell stock for many reasons, but they generally buy for just one – to make money.  As a standard, we only look at material amounts of money, $100 thousand or more, as anything less could just be window dressing. The bar is different with selling, because the natural state of management is to be sellers. This is because most companies provide significant amounts of management compensation packages as stock. Therefore, with selling, we analyze for unusual patterns, … Read more

DJ Kinder Morgan $KMI Slashes Dividend

We admittedly are shocked that Kinder Morgan Inc. slashed its quarterly dividend by 75% on Tuesday, and according to the WSJ, “an unprecedented step for the massive energy company that just one year ago was promising unfettered growth. ” The company said it would cut the dividend to a level of 12.5 cents a share per quarter–or 50 cents annually–down from its prior level of 51 cents each quarter. Kinder Morgan said it had to take action to maintain its investment-grade debt rating. At that yield and its current aftermarket price, KMI is only yielding 3.5-4% less enticing than safer regulated … Read more

Dominion Resources two monster volume days

Dominion Resources (D), the giant Mid Atlantic electric utility, gas transmission, and energy marketing company has had persistent insider buying.  Now it’s got two back to back monster volume days.  I always say listen to the market, it’s got something to tell you.  In this case, it’s telling me Dominion is about to blow up.  There was an announcement of interest in long-term contracts for natural gas LNG export at its Point Cove facility.  Not sure why this is huge news.  It’s obviously easy to arbitrage natural gas out of this country as the price is many times higher overseas.  Besides El Paso,  … Read more

Dominion Resources- primed to dominate

Dominion Resources, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, engages in producing and transporting energy in the United States. It operates in three segments: DVP, Dominion Generation, and Dominion Energy. The DVP segment includes regulated electric transmission and distribution operations that serve residential, commercial, industrial, and governmental customers in Virginia and North Carolina. There are a few reasons why Dominion is set to dominate.     Dominion Resources, (D) operates in the all important corridor of power, the Washingon DC Virginia suburbs where unemployment and recession are largely absent  because of the growth of Government.  Besides what better recession resistant business is there than … Read more
