Insider Buying Week 7-28-23 Euphoria has Begun

Last week pretty much heralded the end of the bear market.  True, long-lasting bull markets start with a plethora of insider buying. That’s obviously not happening.  I’m trying to figure out what that means.  Every significant market correction ended with a near explosion of the insider buying versus selling ratio going vertical. Right now, insiders are cautious. I think we should be too.  That doesn’t mean there won’t be anomalies.     Name: John H Stone Position: President and CEO Transaction Date: 2023-07-27  Shares Bought: 17,500 Average Price Paid: $116.62 Cost: $2,040,892 Company: Allegion plc (ALLE) Allegion plc, a leading … Read more

Insider Buying Week 7-21-23 Is the Bear Market Over?

The headline in Bloomberg this weekend reads, “The Bear Market Has Nearly Been Erased, Fewer Than 20 Months After It Began.” Bear markets don’t come around often. However, when they do, they tend to cause some catastrophic damage to many investors. That’s why it is important to know how often bear markets occur and how long they will last. The average length of a bear market is 289 days or about 9.6 months.  By that measure, the bear market has already been over for some time. The thing about bear markets is that they tend to be much shorter than … Read more

‘s Different this Time

Esteemed Wharton professor Jeremy Siegel says we are in a ‘Goldilocks economy’ and the Fed doesn’t need to raise interest rates anymore. You hear this term mentioned when almost all the risks and scary things that you can anticipate in the market are out there in full view, and nothing scares the crap out of you.  Top of my news feed this morning is the idea that we have a Goldilocks market.  I even wrote about it myself in The Insiders Fund’s most recent partner letter. The Goldilocks market is back.  So what is Goldilocks in financial terms?  According to … Read more

Insider Buying Week 7-07-23 Does the Marlboro Man want to break up with Mary Jane?

The quarter end is normally a dead time for insider buying.  When July 4th falls in the middle of the week, it’s especially boring. There is one thing that stood out on the insider’s front. It’s a story that Reuters broke last Thursday. It was reported that Cronos (CRON)had received numerous buyout offers.  The $2 stock spiked on this news but couldn’t even hold any gains and closed Thursday at the same price or even lower than before the news broke. I find this curious. Reuters is credible. This is not some Reddit post or a firehose of idiots on … Read more

Insider Buying Week 6-23-23- The Fed Plays Whac-A- Mole

The Stock Market is not supposed to go up for some perverse logic when the Fed tightens. Maybe because wealth is really intrinsically undemocratic in the mind of the elites. They want to kill any chance of their status being threatened. The market has been looking for a sign-  TO SELL. The Fed gave them one last week.  TO PROFIT, TO MORTALLY WOUND THE OPPONENT, A KICK IN THE FACE, EGOMANIAICAL ADVANTAGE. The Federal Reserve Chairman and his cohorts of rate-hiking Whac-a-Molers provided some fuel that ignited the latest bout of interest rate hike anxiety. Ironically the curve is the … Read more

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll the significant buys of the last year. All bear markets end in a crescendo, literally an explosion of insider buying.  I believe we are in a classic bear market.  The signposts are obvious.  Beat and raise quarters are met with yawns if not outright sell-offs. Good news is met with brief bouts of buying but soon dissipates into the underlying negative downward trend.  Of course, there are always stocks that work even in a bear market but it is much harder making money on the long side than it … Read more

Insider Buying week 02-18-22 Ukraine is thrown under the Bus

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll the significant buys of the last year. The war is on. Biden made that clear Friday after the close. What he made equally clear is that our allies are completely confused about what we would do beyond righteous indignation. We’ve got a lot of RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION to go around. In fact, I might have been dreaming but I swear I saw diplomats from the EU and the German federation of states wearing placards shoulder to shoulder that said Righteous Indignation- Nah  that was a dream If there was ever … Read more

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll the significant buys of the last year. Last week, I started the blog saying, “at some point making money begins to matter. I’ve long scoffed at relative value analysis as a way to cultivate bad habits.  It’s addictive and should be banned. Comparing companies by silly metrics as a multiple of sales versus a multiple of earnings seems insane yet the madness of crowd behavior is a well-documented phenomenon.  It’s called bubbles and we’ve been in one for quite some time.  I love bubble investing- just point me to … Read more

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll the significant buys of the last year. We’re in a vicious bear market the like of which harks back to the Dot.com bubble bursting for stocks with little or no earnings.  That’s most of the cloud stocks and pretty much all the speculative SPAC’s that are getting annihilated by the Great Unwind. The Indices mask the carnage that is happening below the surface. You don’t need to look to Ukraine for the bloodbath. It’s already well underway on the NASDAQ. There wasn’t much in the way of insider activity … Read more

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll the significant buys of the last year. Russia with 100,000 battle-hardened troops poised to invade Ukraine, the price of crude oil making new highs, and China banning all inbound flights from the U.S right before the Winter Games because of soaring Covid infections, the Fed stating unequivocally they would hike rates more aggressively if needed- and the market only down 2% for the month. Wow- that’s a strong stock market. For how long is anyone’s guess. The blackout period before earnings is always a time of little insider buying … Read more

Insider Buying week 01-07-22 and What a Week it Was

Curious how well insiders are doing with their buys? Scroll the significant buys of the last year. This was certainly an interesting week.  The Nasdaq Generals got a dressing down from their leader, the general market investing public. They said loud and clear that if you insiders are selling droves of your stock, you better give us a better explanation why we shouldn’t be too.  Since dividends are rare and the only benefit of holding these highflyers is that their actual free cash flow-making abilities might one day catch up with their inflated stock price, investors seemed to all … Read more

Microsoft dipped 0.3% Friday, bringing its weekly decline to nearly 5.5%. Alphabet and Apple fell more than 4%. A handful of tech stocks have been propelling the major averages all year and it’s only natural to see some profit-taking.  I tried to borrow some ARKK stock but there was none available to short. Infinite multiples and the greater fool theory are showing cracks in the foundation of relative valuation yet the major indices staged a remarkable comeback up 3.82% while insiders nearly doubled that with the average return up 3.82%. A closer inspection though showed the naked underbelly of this market. Momentum favorites are coming under attack and insiders are making a futile attempt to turn the tide. I’ve been monitoring insider behavior and how it impacts stock prices for about as long as anyone out there I haven’t seen much that shocks me or changes my perception of the usefulness of this information.  Now I have.  Normally significant insider buying will put a floor on a down-trending stock.  That’s changed with SPACS.  No matter how encouraging the news is or robust the insider buying is, when you have big shareholders waiting in … Read more

Insiders were coming back in a pretty big way and then the virus redux hit on Friday.  Does it change anything?  It’s too early to read anything into it as insider buying will have as much as a 48 hour lag to real-world events as the SEC requires insiders to post their transactions within 2 days of making a purchase or sale.  We’ll know more by the end. of next week if the newest Covid … Read more

For trade, details click on this link to the trades It’s hard to get excited about insider buying during an earnings blackout.  It’s even harder to get excited about it when there is only one investable idea but sometimes, maybe all the time, it just takes one good idea to make your fortune. That was certainly the case for Dustin Moscovitz, the CEO and Founder of Asana.  He’s been buying millions of dollars worth of stock in a company that he just brought public, a year ago for 3X the price it went public for. The Bold, the Inexplicable and the Good Soldiers- Insider Buying Week 9-17-21

For trade, details click on this link to the trades.  There were quite a few buys last week and it took me longer than usual to update it. Also, I will provide a brief recap of the conversation I had with the Chief Medical Officer, Alexander A. Zukiwski at Casi Pharmaceuticals. Casi is a U.S. NASDAQ-listed biotech selling exclusively to the increasingly affluent Chinese middle class.  CASI is a penny stock that will turn into $dollars if things pan out the way I think. They have one approved revenue-producing product with an exciting pipeline. There is a high probability they … Read more

Insider Buying week 9-10-21 This is Trickery of the Highest Order

For trade, details click on this link to the trades. September is living up to its reputation as the worst-performing month of the year and we’re just getting started.  U.S. stocks fell for a fifth straight day on Friday, with the S&P 500 ending the week down 1.7 percent in its longest losing streak since February.  But that’s just a diversion from the bigger story. When the game you’re playing makes no more sense, is it time to walk away from the game? Have the rules changed in some way that’s beyond your comprehension? For trade, details click on this link to the trades  The S&P was up 2% for the week and is up nearly 15% YTD.  No one knows what the direction is for the next six months but I would not take the under. Perhaps the most unusual thing is the supply of money seems endless. I think it’s a record year for IPOs, almost daily SPAC issuance, and all kinds of new and quite stupid crypto investments. It really seems such a waste that so much brainpower and money have gone toward solving problems that don’t exist.  The centralized finance … Read more

For trade, details click on this link to the trades  All the talking heads made fools of themselves last week.  Powel said the economy was doing great; the Dow plummeted, its worst week since October of last year. The market marched in lockstep, giving up on the cyclical recovery trade, hammering banks, energy, material sectors, and lifted the neglected technology growth sector. The Fed said they got it that inflation was running hotter than they thought, and they might tweak interest rates higher a wee bit sooner.  Instead of interest rates going up, long-term interest rates plummeted, and the yield … Read more
